Though usually used as a blending grape, the Petit Verdot grown on our Coombsville estate has always demanded its day in the Napa Valley sun. And rightfully so. Brooding aromatics emerge from the glass, as layers of black plums, dried violets, blueberry cobbler, cigar box, loam, pencil shavings, and spiced figs move effortlessly into a sensual palate of black cherries, spiced plums, crushed stone, fresh sage, and hints of graham cracker. The texture and concentration of this wine are downright decadent, showing detailed work in both the vineyard and the cellar. Finely grained tannins lead to a nuanced and complex finish framed by cool climate acidity, showcasing the unique characteristics of this underutilized varietal.
